Art exhibit to capture images of winter

The Island Now

The Huntington Arts Council currently has a call to artists for an upcoming exhibit, “The Winter Solstice: Darkness Into Light,” that will run from Dec. 8 to Jan. 6, 2018.

“The winter solstice is a turning point, not just astrologically, but also in our psyches,” says juror Laura Powers-Swiggett, who exhibits widely on Long Island.  “Artists since ancient times have mined its rich symbolic, metaphoric and spiritual imagery.  The visual possibilities are endless.  ‘The Winter Solstice: Darkness Into Light’ is a theme that resonates greatly with my own work and lends itself equally well to abstract and figurative interpretations.”

The exhibit is open to all artists including full-time students.

The eligible mediums include oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, graphite, charcoal, acrylic, sculpture and photography.
