Art League announces winners of ‘This Land is Our Land’ photography exhibition

The juror has spoken! At the Art League of Long Island’s 8th annual photography exhibition, entitled “This Land is Our Land,” exhibition juror Sandra Carrion selected 60 works out of 373 entries, six of which, were singled out for awards.

The following photographers won awards in excellence: Gerard Gilberti of East Hampton, for his work “Zabriskie Point, Death Valley,” Sue Miller of Bayport for her work “Anywhere America, The Now of Then,” and Kathleen Massi of Setauket for her piece “Endless Loyalty.” Honorable mentions include Julianna Kirk of Brookhaven for “After the Storm,” Paul Mele of Island Park for “Super Spooky Superband,” and John Micheals of Hicksville, for “Heavy Duty.”

The exhibit is on view in the gallery through Feb. 7 and the exhibition juror will be hosting a gallery talk event to discuss her selections on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Sandra Carrion is an instructor at Nassau Community College. She has served as the director of Soho Photo Gallery and is the creator of the popular International Krappy Kamera Competition and Exhibition held annually at Soho Photo in Manhattan. Ms. Carrion is also a founding member of fotofoto Gallery in Huntington, NY and 9 East Contemporary Art Guild in Huntington, NY.
