Artists can submit work for new light and shadows exhibit

“I only see forms that are lit up and forms that are not. There is only light and shadow.” — Francisco Goya

The Art Guild currently invites all artists to enter “Casting Shadows: The Beauty of Light & Dark, A Juried Competition and Exhibition.”

An object is revealed by the reflection of light while shadows define light’s absence. The use of shadows can establish dimension and create drama and depth. Cast your shadows and see where they take you.

All artists, 18 years and older are invited to submit up to three works for consideration. High school students ages 14 to 18 years may enter in the student category.

All styles from abstract to realism are welcome. Mediums may include, but are not limited to acrylic, oil, watercolor, pastel, mixed media, collage, encaustic, etching/prints, or sculpture with pedestal. No photography, copies, reproductions or giclees admitted.

All works must be original and have been created in the last five years.  The deadline for submissions is Friday, Sept. 14. Artists may register online or download the prospectus at www.theartguild.org.

The exhibit will be on view from Saturday, Oct. 6 to Sunday, Oct. 28. Gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. or weekday hours by appointment.

An Artists’ Reception and Awards Ceremony will be held on Sunday, Oct. 14, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. A Juror of Awards for this show has not yet been selected.

The Art Guild hosts classes for children and adults year-round. Interested participants can register for two upcoming workshops: A to Z Textures and Surfaces with Patti Mollica on Sept. 29; and Simple and Sophisticated Relief Printmaking with Stephanie Navon-Jacobson on Nov. 10 and 11.
