Author visit and book signing at Hillside Public Library

The Island Now

Dr. Natalie Naylor, the president of the Nassau County Historical Society and retired Hofstra University history professor, takes us on a journey through a Universe of Stories about Long Island’s pioneer women pilots: The first woman aviator flew on Long Island in 1910. Within months, other women were taking flying lessons on the Hempstead Plains and became among the first women licensed aviators. In the late 1920s, a 17-year-old woman from Freeport flew under all four East River bridges. And in 1928, another Long Island woman was responsible for propelling Amelia Earhart to fame.

Naylor will be at the Hillside Public Library on Tuesday, July 9 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Hillside Public Library is located at 155 Lakeville Rd, New Hyde Park.
