Belmont Park to host its first wine tasting event

The Island Now

On Sept. 14, Belmont Park will host its first-ever wine tasting event, Belmont Uncorked, celebrating both local and international wines. The event was organized with the help of event producer Starfish Junction Productions, who had also put together the Long Island Craft Classic earlier this summer.

Long Island has a long history of high-quality wine production. Representing the local producers will be some of Long Island’s most-popular wineries, including Pindar Vineyards, Pugliese Vineyards and Duck Walk Vineyards. Representing the west coast producers will be California’s Niner Wine Estates and Rock Wall Winery, R. Steward & Co. Winery from Oregon, and the flagship wineries from the Kendall-Jackson family of wines: Gran Moraine, Stonestreet Estate Vineyards, and Galerie Wines.  Making a special appearance will be California’s organic and biodynamic vineyard, Bonterra. Most impressive is the lineup of more than 30 international wines coming from Italy, France, Brazil, South Africa and Israel.

This year’s wine tasting glass is sponsored by Wine U Design, and The Cook’s Studio, a local winery and its culinary education center, both located in Hicksville. Wine U Design staff will be on-site to chat about their unforgettable hands-on wine making experiences and, of course, pour their house-made wines.

“We are thrilled to be a part of this inaugural event,” said Wine U Design’s Founder and Chief Winemaker Vincenzo Saulle. “We will be pouring some of our hand-made, barrel-aged wines, all made right here in Nassau County. Chefs from The Cook’s Studio will be there with us to showcase the variety of hands-on culinary classes we offer, everything from paella and Chinese dumplings to mozzarella and fresh pasta.”

Belmont Uncorked will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Tickets are on sale now for $50 per person and include all wine sampling, grandstand viewing of the day’s live scheduled races, and a souvenir wine tasting glass. Designated driver tickets are available for $12 each. No one under 21, including designated drivers, will be admitted and photo ID is required for entry. The event will be held in the North Shore Terrace viewing pavilion on the fourth floor of the Belmont Park Racetrack. A limited number of tickets will be sold. Once the event sells out, no additional tickets will be available for purchase. Food is available for purchase from venue concessions. Betting windows will be open for those feeling lucky. Parking is $3 per car.

Belmont Park Racetrack, home of the Belmont Stakes, the third leg of the Triple Crown, is located at 2150 Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont. Ticket links and info for the festival is available at www.BelmontUncorked.com.
