Brunch and French film in Huntington

The Island Now

The Cinema Arts Centre will host Sunday Schmooze, a brunch, screening and discussion of the new French film, “Back to Burgundy,” a perfect summer getaway.

The event will take place on Sunday, June 24, with bagels served at 10 a.m. and the film showing at 11 a.m.

Originally titled “Ce qui nous lie” (what binds us), “Back to Burgundy” is the latest film from director Cédric Klapisch (“L’Auberge Espagnole,” “Chinese Puzzle”) that captures the transfixing beauty of seasonal change across one of France’s most famous winemaking regions.

With the death of his father looming, Jean (Pio Marmaï) returns from his Australian winery to his childhood home in Burgundy after a ten-year absence.

He takes over the family vineyard with siblings Juliette (Ana Girardot) and Jérémie (François Civil).

Over a year, Jean, Juliette and Jérémie must fight to put aside their lingering resentments about the past as they seek to maintain their father’s legacy and defy expectations.

A heartfelt love letter to what could be argued are France’s greatest passions — ‘cinéma et vin’ — “Back to Burgundy” is a nuanced parable of sibling camaraderie and imploding familial tension that arrives at the inevitable conclusion that love is like wine… it needs time.

The film is 117 min., with English subtitles.

Tickets to Sunday Schmooze are $11 for members, $16 for the general public.

The Cinema Arts Centre is located at 423 Park Ave. in Huntington.
