Butterflies welcome at new museum garden

The Island Now

The Science Museum of Long Island in Plandome Manor recently unveiled a butterfly-attracting garden behind the museum’s main building on Saturday, Nov. 5.
The unveiling was held courtesy of The Grounds Guys of Garden City, who donated the services of the landscaping company’s crew, plant materials, and landscape design, and volunteers from the community, according to a press release from the Science Museum of Long Island.
“Each year, I select a local not-for-profit organization as the recipient of a ‘give-back-to-the-community’ activity — this year, we chose the museum as the site for our “We Care Initiative,”” Jim Schimmenti, owner of The Grounds Guys said.
Several museum members turned out to volunteer, and half a dozen eighth-grade boys from Manhasset were on hand.
Webelo Cub Scouts from New Hyde Park’s Troop 201 also pitched in to assist the professionals.  ”
“Our new butterfly garden is not only a gorgeous addition to the preserve, but also serves as a teaching tool for our on-site springtime butterfly programs,” Cara O’Donnell, chief administrator at the museum said.
