Williston Park’s Church of St. Aidan will be hosting its 13th annual All Souls Day Sunday, Nov. 3, at 7:00 p.m. The event will feature music originally composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Among the works of music made by Mozart that the church intends to play are the motet “Ave Verum Corpus” and “Requiem in D-Minor.” The latter is a popular song played at Requiem masses.

Mozart is considered to be one of the greatest composers in musical history. He was unique during his era in that he wrote music for all musical genres during the mid-to-late 18th century. He excelled in each genre.

According to the church, the music will be performed by an ensemble group, referred to as “Ignis Angelicus,” which translates to angelic fire from Latin. The group is comprised of a chorus, soloists and an orchestra.

All Souls Day represents a Catholic tradition in which people pray for their deceased loved ones. The day is celebrated as a national holiday throughout most of Europe.

Drago Bubalo, music director for the Church of St. Aidan, said this annual event is so heavily-attended that it almost feels like a Sunday mass.

“It’s become a big tradition in the community,” Bubalo said of the All Souls Day concert.
