‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ coming to L.I.

The Island Now

Rachel Bloom is best known for starring in the CW musical television series, “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” which she co-created and executive produced alongside Aline Brosh McKenna.

Bloom starred as Rebecca Bunch, a successful, driven, and arguably crazy young woman who impulsively gives up everything — partnership at a prestigious law firm and an upscale apartment in Manhattan — in a desperate attempt to find love and happiness in suburban West Covina, Calif.

For her role as Bunch, Bloom won both the 2016 Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Series — Musical or Comedy and the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Actress in a television comedy. Her songwriting on the series earned her three Emmy Award nominations.

Before “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” Bloom released two albums of comedy music, “Please Love Me” and “Suck It.” Her past acting work includes appearances on the television series “How I Met Your Mother” and “The Fuzz,” in addition to voice work on “BoJack Horseman,” “Robot Chicken” and the CW web series, “Very Mallory.”

Bloom co-starred in the film “Most Likely to Murder” opposite Adam Pally and Vincent Kartheiser, which premiered at the SXSW Film Festival in 2018. She has written and starred in two live musical sketch comedy shows at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in Los Angeles and New York, “Rachel Bloom is a Triple Threat!!!” and “Sing Out, Louise!”

Bloom’s writing credits include Adult Swim’s “Robot Chicken,” Fox’s “Allen Gregory,” and Lucasfilm’s upcoming “Star Wars: Detours.” She has also released two albums, “Please Love Me” (a compilation of old and new hits) and “Suck It, Christmas!!! (A Chanukah Album).”

After attending NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts for theater, where she served as head writer and director of the prestigious Hammerkatz sketch group, Bloom studied improv and sketch at Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in New York. She has been named one of Variety’s “10 Scribes To Watch,” as well as a “Comic to Watch” by Cosmopolitan, Time Out LA and other publications.

In advance of her upcoming, two-show engagement at Radio City Music Hall, Bloom will perform her “Warm Up Show” at The Paramount on Sunday, May 12 at 7 p.m.
