On Friday, March 6, the Port Washington Public Library treated their community with another free installment of “Inside the Musician’s Mind.”

Created and hosted by the library’s multi-talented Tony Traguardo this on-going series explores in their own words the journey that each featured musician took to achieve their success.

In celebration of Women’s History Month, Ramona Jan along with Andre Turan – “JANTURAN” – performed original songs which had women themes.

Following their compelling performance, Ramona joined Tony for an intriguing 67-minute conversation. An inspiring story of how as a teenager, she leaves the confines of her suburban New Jersey home to find herself while living in a shabby Manhattan apartment. Even rejecting Madonna as a possible roommate Ramona worked her way into an entry job at the legendary Mediasound Recording Studios. Despite the sexism and bullying that Ramona endured in this male-dominated environment the long hours paid off as she became one of the first women audio engineers.

Ramona shared experiences of working in recording sessions with Frank Sinatra, Mick & Keith, Barry Manilow, Laura Nyro, Talking Heads, and many other greats. And when not in the studio Ramona was on the stage of CBGB and other popular NYC clubs with her band The Comateens that had some major label success.
