First part of Art League’s Members’ Exhibit debuts Nov. 3

The Island Now

The Art League of Long Island’s 63rd Annual Members’ Exhibition features more than 200 works of art created by their many talented members.

Artists from all walks of life — those just beginning their journey into the visual arts and established exhibiting artists — will exhibit their artwork in mediums such as painting, drawing, collage, photography, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, fiber arts, glass art, wood, and graphic art.

The exhibit will be shown in two parts due to the large number of works. Part One of Members’ Exhibition 2018 will be on display from Saturday, Nov. 3 through Sunday, Nov. 25, and Part Two exhibits Dec. 8 through Jan. 6.

The first artists’ reception and awards presentation will take place at the Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery on Sunday, Nov. 4, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., followed by one on Dec. 9 at the same time.

Awards of excellence and honorable mentions of the art on display will be selected by guest juror Stephanie Gress, director of curatorial affairs for the Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum in Centerport. Her time at the museum has been marked by a successful record of procuring large grants to restore Mr. Vanderbilt’s original exhibits.

A graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, with a master’s degree in art history, Gress believes that visual arts convey the spirit of the time in which they were produced. Researching and writing about art and architecture enrich history for her. She enjoys engaging with the art community through local galleries, museums, and historic sites.

The Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery is open free of charge Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and weekends from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Art League is located at 107 East Deer Park Road in Dix Hills.
