Children’s Pre-K Winter Workshop

In this workshop, kids will discover information about owls as they build their own sculptures of the wise creatures. There will also be animal dioramas and galleries of collected items. Registration for the event is $20 for the public or $18 for museum members.

Maple Sugaring

The Science Museum of Long Island will be kicking off the maple sugaring season with this workshop. Kids will learn how sap is collected from a tree and how farmers turn that into maple syrup. It’s recommended that parents or guardians drop off their kids with a packed lunch and have them dressed for the outdoor weather. The event is $75 per child for the public or $65 for museum members.

Family Sleep Over- Penguins and Pajamas

Kids will be able to participate in several penguin-themed activities throughout the night. There will be a penguin presentation and several arts and crafts activities. Dinner and a continental breakfast will be served as part of the event. As the kids prepare to go to sleep, they can set up their sleeping bags next to exhibits like the 120,000-gallon shark tank, the colorful Best Buddies tank or under the watchful eye of the giant Pacific octopus. This overnight experience is $64.95 for the public or $58.45 for aquarium members.

Children’s Music Hour

The Sunshine Music Duo will have an interactive performance for preschool and elementary school children. Comprised of Diane Menzel and Helen Kotzky, the duo will be performing songs by artists like Raffi, Fred Penner and Peter, Paul and Mary, among others. Additionally, songs from popular Disney movies will be played too. Children will also be encouraged to participate in the music by trying to play the musical instruments and props on hand. Light refreshments will be on hand following the conclusion of the concert. Admission is free, though there is an optional $10 donation available at the door.

Blippi Live

Thursday, Feb. 27, 6 p.m.

The titular character comes to life in this play. Blippi will be teaching the kids lessons throughout the play. Kids can sing and dance along to the musical numbers throughout the performance. Ticket prices for the event are $19.50, $39.50, $49.50 and $69.50, depending on seating.
