Among the activities planned for this winter celebration are ice carving demonstrations and displays, live music, face painting, fire dancers, a laser light show and more. Most of the scheduled events will be free, with the exception of the Culinary Stroll, Oyster Crawl, Frosty Plunge and the live performance by the Hoo Doo Loungers at Bay Street Theater. There should be fun events for the whole family.

With the month of February, also known as National Chocolate Lover’s Month, coming to a close, the Long Island Children’s Museum will be holding a chocolate-themed workshop. Kids would learn about the origins of chocolate and about which countries celebrate certain holidays and customs with the delicious treat. Then kids will be able to design their own sweet treat jar to take home and fill with chocolate. Participation in this event costs $4, plus $14 for museum admission. Museum members would get free admission to the museum and only need to pay $3 for the event.

“Story Explorers” can listen to stories from Miss Heather. Kids in attendance can use music, sound and costumes to create their own unique performances afterward. Tickets for this event are $10 per child. Each ticket comes with a free accompanying adult ticket. Additional adult tickets are $5.

Irish Family Day

Teachers and students from the Mulvihill-Lynch School of Irish Dance will be performing during this event. Following the performance by this award-winning organization, the dancers will be taking questions from the audience and try teaching them some Irish dance steps. Tickets to this event are $9 per child.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

Tom Hanks stars as the beloved Mr. Fred Rogers in this Oscar-nominated film. Lloyd Vogel, a jaded journalist, is assigned to profile the TV star. He finds Rogers to be as kind of a man in real life as in the show. Vogel is then inspired to try reconciling with his painful past thanks to his interactions with Rogers. The film is rated PG and the screening is free.
