Gladys Knight to perform at Kupferberg Center

The Island Now

The great ones endure, and Gladys Knight has long been one of those performers. Very few singers over the last fifty years have matched her unassailable artistry. The seven-time Grammy winner has enjoyed No.1 hits in pop, gospel, R&B, and adult contemporary, and has triumphed in film, television, and live performance.

Knight achieved icon status with the Pips, having recorded some of the most memorable songs of the 1960s, ’70s, and ’80s. The legend of soul has recorded beloved gold-certified singles like “Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye),” “I’ve Got to Use My Imagination,” “Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me,” the No. 1 smash “Midnight Train to Georgia,” and the classic “That’s What Friends Are For.”

The “Empress of Soul” was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 and received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the 2004 BET Awards Ceremony.

Knight’s upcoming concert at the Kupferberg Center for the Arts at Queens College is sure to be an unforgettable performance from one of Motown’s leading ladies.

The Kupferberg Center for the Arts is located at 153-49 Reeves Ave. in Flushing.
