The Gold Coast International Film Festival is celebrating the return of outdoor movies with a Flashback Friday screening of the classic 1980s hit “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” starring Matthew Broderick.

The screening, celebrating the 35th anniversary of the film’s initial release, will take place on Friday May 7 at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington. The film starts at 8:00 p.m. (cars enter starting at 7:00 p.m.) and tickets are $30 per car.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off became one of the top-grossing films of 1986 and has been praised by critics and audiences alike. In 2014, the film was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.

New this year, Gold Coast will offer you the chance to see yourself on the big screen at the event. Celebrate Mother’s Day, a birthday or graduation by sending Gold Coast a picture and short message and a customized slide will be created for you that will appear on screen before and after the film. To purchase tickets and on-screen slides visit www.goldcoastarts.org/flashback-drive-in.

Proceeds from the screening will benefit the non-profit Gold Coast Arts Center, now celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Each year Gold Coast serves thousands of students and audiences of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, including over the past year when it transitioned its classes, workshops, concerts, artist talks, films and special events to an interactive virtual format.

Gold Coast is currently offering a wide array of in-person and virtual classes in arts, music, dance, theater, film, chess, robotics and more. The ever-popular summer camp is back starting June 28, and one-day outdoor workshops are currently available offering a variety of disciplines that cater to adults, families, kids and teens.

Several of Gold Coast’s non-profit community partners will be celebrated at the May 7 event including Landmark on Main Street, PW Hearts and Sid Jacobson JCC. Gold Coast is also working with local restaurants to offer special take-out “Drive-In” specials that audiences attending the movie can take advantage of.

Sponsors of this special event include The Bristal, Neiman Marcus, New Country Lexus of Great Neck and the Town of North Hempstead.
