Dr. David G. Marwell will speak at the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County about his new book, “Mengele: Unmasking the ‘Angel of Death,’” on Sunday, Feb. 2.

In the book, Marwell traces the international search for SS officer Josef Mengele in 1985, which ended in a cemetery in Brazil, and the dogged forensic investigation, including the work of Nassau County’s chief medical examiner, which finally confirmed Mengele’s death in 1992. Marwell will speak about this riveting story of science without limits, escape without freedom and resolution without justice.

Marwell, a former director of the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City, worked on the Mengele case at the Justice Department’s Office of Special Investigations in the 1980s. A historian who has served and led a number of government and nonprofit institutions, he lives in University Park, Maryland, with his wife. Marwell will present a talk based on his new book. Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase.

“Mengele: Unmasking the ‘Angel of Death’” hits the shelves on Jan. 28. For more information on Marwell’s new book visit https://wwnorton.com/books/9780393609530.

There will be a $10 suggested donation to attend. Light refreshments will be served.  To RSVP, call 516-571-8040 or visit programs@hmtcli.org.
