Children’s Workshop: Periscope
Saturday, March 3, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Kids can hone their powers of observation in this hands-on workshop where they will construct a periscope to expand their view. Once the periscope is built, they can decorate it with paint and stickers. All kids must be accompanied by an adult and get to keep their craft, as well as receive a certificate of achievement, a workshop apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.

The 14th Annual Polar Plunge: Freezin’ for a Reason
Saturday, March 3 at 12 p.m. (check in between 10 and 11:30 a.m.)

Head on out with friends and family and take the chilly plunge at this annual event that raises money for the athletes of Special Olympics.  Every participant who raises $150 receives an official Plunge sweatshirt.

Irish Dancers
Saturday, March 3 at 8 p.m. (Molloy) and Sunday, March 4 at 1 p.m. (WWBA)

With St. Patrick’s Day approaching, celebrate the tradition of Irish dancing.  The Madison Theatre at Molloy College will host the Dublin Irish Dancers in “Stepping Out.”  In case you miss this evening show, then head to the Walt Whitman Historic Birthplace the following afternoon to enjoy a performance of Irish dancing by teachers and students from the Mulvihill-Lynch Studio of Irish Dance, champions on the competitive circuit.

Purim Character Breakfast
Sunday, March 4, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Children can come in costume, make hamantaschen, sing, play games with the Israeli scouts, and enjoy a bagel breakfast. There is an additional Purim celebration from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Kids’ Carnival for a Cure
Sunday, March 4, 1 to 4 p.m.

Each year, the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation’s Carnival for a Cure attracts adults and children of all ages to play the latest video games, try their skill at bowling, cue up for pool, bounce on an inflatable, take a chance on incredible prize drawings and more. There will also be an array of food available, including Cold Stone Creamery ice cream.

Hoda Kotb at Book Revue
Thursday, March 7 at 7 p.m.

Today show co-anchor, Hoda Kotb, will speak about and signs copies of her new children’s picture book, “I’ve Loved You Since Forever,” a celebratory and poetic testament to the timeless love felt between parent and child that is inspired by the adoption of her baby girl, Haley Joy.
