“The Nerd” at Hofstra University

Friday, Oct. 13 and Saturday, Oct. 14 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. 

The Department of Drama and Dance presents this side-splitting comedy that centers on the hilarious dilemma of a young architect who is visited by a man he’s never met, but who saved his life in Vietnam. The visitor turns out to be an incredibly inept, hopelessly clueless “nerd” who outstays his welcome with a vengeance.

34th Annual Oyster Festival
Saturday, Oct. 14 and Sunday, Oct. 15, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. 

Originated as a hometown parade honoring Theodore Roosevelt before evolving into the largest outdoor festival on Long Island, this popular event that draws more than 200,000 visitors on the waterfront in downtown Oyster Bay includes live entertainment, top-notch artisans, shows, rides, and the iconic oyster eating and shucking contest. While you’re in the village, you can also take part in a nature walk at the Roosevelt estate, Sagamore Hill, on the 14th at 1 p.m.

David Houston Performs — Murder, Madness and Poe

Saturday, Oct. 14 and Sunday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. 

This unique event written and directed by David Houston includes haunting tales and poems from Edgar Allen Poe’s best-known works, along with musical interludes performed by Michael Bertolini as Poe, the 19th century master of the macabre.  $8 parking fee at main gate.

Port Washington Restaurant Week  

Sunday, Oct. 15 through Oct. 22  

With more than four dozen restaurants, Port Washington has long been known as the restaurant capital of Long Island. The Greater Port Washington Business Improvement District has once again organized this annual event with all of the participating restaurants offering a three-course, prix-fixe menu for just $25.

Colin Hay at Landmark on Main
