The Art League of Long Island will host a lecture, “In Appreciation of an American Artist: The Legacy of Martin Lumen Winter,” as part of the Dab of Paint free lecture series on Monday, June 4 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Lumen Martin Winter was an important American artist for more than 50 years, creating major murals at the United Nations in New York City, the AFL-CIO Building in Washington, D.C., St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church by Lincoln Center, several U.S. Post Offices and much more. He even designed the official logo for NASA’s Apollo XIII.

Winter’s fine art portfolio included colorful landscapes, abstract art, and mosaic works. Join this event to hear Alexander Katlan, renowned art conservator and collector, discuss this artist’s career and accomplishments.

Katlan recognized the importance of Winter’s work and is now presenting it to the art world for re-appraisal 35 years after Winter’s death with hopes of bringing renewed light and appreciation of the artist’s role in American art history.

The Art League of Long Island Jeanie Tengelson Gallery is located at 107 E. Deer Park Road in Dix Hills.  For more information and to RSVP, call 631-462-5400 or go to www.artleagueli.org.
