Three students from local high schools in Nassau and Suffolk County are being recognized and honored by the LIU Post Art Department during the “Advanced Visions 14: High School Artists of Excellence” exhibition.
All of the participating students were selected by their teachers to represent their schools in the exhibition, which recognizes the superior work being done by high school students in Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and Portfolio Preparation art programs across Long Island.
The exhibition will be open from Dec. 11 through Jan. 24 in the Student Art League Gallery, on the main level of the B. Davis Schwartz Memorial Library building on the Post Campus of Long Island University.
Three students are recognized with Juror’s Awards.
Casey Goldstein, a student from Half Hollow Hills High School earned an award for her digital print, “Age Translated into Wisdom.” Goldstein’s art teacher is Allyson Uttendorfer.
Meghan McCarthy from Floral Park Memorial High School earned an award for her mixed media piece, “What’s Inside.” McCarthy’s art teacher is Sydell Glasser.
Sehjin Kim from Paul D. Schreiber High School earned an award for her oil painting, “Mirrors.” Kim’s art teacher is Miranda Best.
“This year’s work is an excellent example of a wide selection of media, yet there is a coincidental and beautiful content theme in many pieces,” Cristina Lomangino, exhibition coordinator, remarked. “It is evident that each piece is personal to the artist and conveys real talent in form at such an early age.”
A reception with an awards presentation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 24 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Awards will be presented at 7 p.m.
