‘Music Man’ at the Landmark April 27

The Community Synagogue Theater Company will present “The Music Man” at The Jeanne Rimsky Theater at Landmark on Main Street, located at 232 Main St. in Port Washington.

The performances will take place on Thursday, April 27 and Saturday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m., and on Sunday April 30 at 1:30 and 5:30 p.m.

“The Music Man” is a Tony Award-winning Broadway musical that was made into an Academy Award-winning film starring Robert Preston and Shirley Jones.

It is considered to be one of the classics of musical theater.

The story follows fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band despite the fact that he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef.

His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, the librarian.

The score is filled with wonderful tunes, including “76 Trombones,” “Being in Love,” “Till There Was You,” “Wells Fargo Wagon,” and the showstopper, “You Got Trouble.”

Director Matt DeLuca says, “The Music Man is a masterpiece. It is quintessential musical theater and you won’t want to miss this production.”

The cast features several different family combinations including two brother and sister combos, four different mothers and daughters sharing the stage, a father and daughter who both have leading roles, and one proud mom and son.

When the whole cast sings the finale to Act I, “Wells Fargo Wagon,” there are both imaginary families and real families on stage.

“I truly believe there is something magical about live theater,” remarked Matt DeLuca, one of the performers. “I have witnessed first-hand how lives are changed when people come together to create a work of art.”

Don’t miss the magic of Deluca and the rest of the cast in “The Music Man” this weekend.
