“Isle of Shells; An Illustrated History of Long Island Beaches” by Kristen J. Nyitray

The sandy Atlantic surf beaches, calm bayfront beaches, and rugged North Shore LI sound beaches were first inhabited by Indigenous people.  These areas were called Sewanhacky (“Isle of Shells”) in reference to the offerings received where the water met the land.

Kristin J. Nyitray will discuss her book Long Island Beaches through a curated selection of manuscripts, postcards, photographs, and maps. Kristin is associate librarian at Stonybrook, director of special collections and university archivist, a Certified Archivist and Digital Archivist Specialist and a recipient of the State University of New York’s Chancellor’s and President’s awards for excellence in Librarianship.

This virtual meeting is free and open to all.  Kindly register just so we have a good estimate of the number of attendees.
