The Art Guild calls for artist submissions for new exhibit

The Island Now

The Art Guild in Manhasset is inviting all artists to enter its “About Face – the Portrait,” a juried competition and exhibition. The Portrait is a time honored tradition throughout the ages which captures the spirit, personality and emotion of a person.

All artists 18 and older (high school students ages 14 to 18 years may enter in the student category) are invited to submit up to three works for consideration. All styles from abstract to realism are welcome. Mediums may include, but not limited to, acrylic, oil, watercolor, pastel, photography, mixed media, collage, encaustic, etching/prints, or sculpture (with pedestal).

All works must be original and have been created in the last five years. No copies or reproductions are allowed. Artists may view the competition’s full criteria, register, or download the prospectus at TheArtGuild.org.

The juror-of-awards for this exhibit is Robert Silverman. Silverman’s innovative techniques have been featured in American Artist Workshop Magazine and The Art of the Portrait, the official publication of the Portrait Society of America. His work has appeared at Edward Hopper House, the Lockwood-Mathews Museum, National Arts Club and Salmagundi Club. For more information about Silverman and to see his work, visit his website at silvermanportraits.com.

The deadline for all submissions is Monday, Aug. 5 and the exhibit will be on display from Aug. 31 to Sept. 29. Gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. or weekday hours by appointment. An Artists’ Reception and Awards Ceremony, open to the public, will be held on Sunday, Sept. 8 from 3 to 5 p.m.
