Hatchling Turtle Day

Saturday, Aug. 18, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Little ones ages 3 to 12 can meet the Hatchery’s baby turtles and celebrate their hatching. Professional staff will be on hand to answer questions about the few days’ old turtles.  Refreshments will be served. $6 adults; $4 kids and seniors 65 and up; members are free.

T.R.’s Laboratory Explorers

Sunday, Aug. 19, 11 a.m.

Children ages 9 to 12 can explore the natural resources of Sagamore Hill, home of Theodore Roosevelt.  At this event, they will embark on a free scientific expedition across the park to learn about the local flora, fauna, and bacteria, as well as gain hands-on experience using a microscope. Participants should arrive 30 minutes before the start time and wear appropriate clothes (high socks, long pants and sturdy shoes).

Sweet Dreams

Monday, Aug. 20 through Friday, Aug. 24, 1 p.m., 1:40 p.m, 2:20 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Do you have sweet dreams of lollipops, soccer or butterflies? Kids ages 5 and up can join this workshop and design their own pillowcase using fabric paint, markers and stamps. As they create the masterpiece of their dreams, they will listen to lullabies from around the world. Each session is 30 minutes. $5 with museum admission; $4 LICM members.

Autism-Friendly Program

Wednesday, Aug. 22, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

In collaboration with the Historic House Trust of New York City, the Queens County Farm will offer a morning of programming for families who have children with Autism Spectrum Disorder that will include interactive tours of the farm grounds, opportunities to observe livestock, and an optional tractor-drawn hayride. Advanced tickets required ($8 for all ages).

Enjoy the Last Few Weeks of Summer at Splish Splash!

If you haven’t yet paid a summer visit to Splish Splash, then beat the heat and head out to Long Island’s favorite water park to enjoy their many cool rides, including two that opened this season: Bombs Away, which features two dueling, 300-foot slides perched on a tower over 50 feet in the air; and Riptide Racer, a super slick, aerodynamically-designed mat slide that will drench four people as they charge down at maximum speeds.
