Build Your Own Scarecrow, Fall Face Painting, Hayrides and Pumpkin Decorating at Hicks

Saturday, Oct. 13 and Sunday, Oct. 14, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (every weekend through Oct. 28)

Enjoy these outdoor fall activities at Hicks Nurseries. For the scarecrow craft, bring your own scarecrow shirt and jeans and Hicks will provide the hay stuffing and other materials ($15 per scarecrow). For face painting, choose from three fall-themed designs ($8). Take a hayride down an all-new, Halloween-inspired path ($5 per person). And decorate a pumpkin using crafts at Hicks ($9).

Kids in the Cave

Kids ages 8 and under with a paying adult can enjoy Salt Beach, where there are pails, shovels and trucks to make fall sand castles and snow angels while getting a healthy dose of dry salt therapy.

The Amazing Maize Maze and Maze by Moonlight

Saturday, Oct. 13 and Sunday, Oct. 14, 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (The Amazing Maize Maze) and Saturday, Oct. 13 and 20, 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. (Maze by Moonlight)

Get lost in NYC’s three-acre interactive corn maze. The Amazing Maize Maze begins with a “stalk talk” to prepare you for the challenge of finding clues, solving puzzles, and making your way out of the maze. $10 for adults; $5 per child (ages 4 to 11); children ages 3 and under are free.  At Maze by Moonlight, navigate the maze by the starry night sky (or by flashlight) on two Saturdays only. $12 for adults; $7 per child (ages 4 to 11); children ages 3 and under are free.

Nocturnal Animals at Garvies Point

Saturday, Oct. 13, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Children ages 5 and up can meet native animals that prefer the darkness and quiet of night to perform their daily tasks. Advance registration required. $10/adult; $5/child, 5 to 12 years. $8/adult member; $3/child member. Includes program, light refreshments and museum admission.
