Kids’ Workshop: Helicopter

Saturday, Nov. 3, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Honor all who have served our country in this hands-on, Veteran’s Day-focused workshop. You and your child can build a model military helicopter to spark a conversation with a veteran about fighting large fires, moving troops, getting supplies to ships, and transporting patients. Once the “helo” build is complete, your child can decorate it with paint and stickers.

The I Love Chocolate Fest

Saturday, Nov. 3 and Sunday, Nov. 4, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be more than 70 chocolate exhibits and other delicious foods, handmade crafts, wine and spirits, and live music performed by local entertainers at this sweet event the whole family will enjoy.

Jigsaw Jones and the Case of the Class Clown

There is a practical joker on the loose in Ms. Gleason’s class so it’s up to Jigsaw Jones and his friend Mila to catch the clown. This might be their most slippery case yet, in this live musical production based on the book by author James Preller.

Chinese Warriors of Peking

Saturday, Nov. 3 at 3 p.m. (Tilles Center) and Sunday, Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. (Molloy College)

Families on both the North and South Shores will be amazed by the high-intensity martial arts and breathtaking acrobatics in this show that is set during the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644) and tells the tale of two rival martial arts disciplines competing in the ancient Chinese capital of Peking.

Family Shorts and Family Film Day at the Gold Coast International Film Festival

Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. through Monday, Nov. 12 at 12:30 p.m. (see website for a schedule of screenings and locations)

The Bryant Library in Roslyn, the Port Washington Library, Soundview Cinemas in Port Washington, and the Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington will host family-friendly films during this 10-day festival, culminating in Family Film Day at the Gold Coast Arts Center on Nov. 14 (Veteran’s Day), where children can watch fun short films, join movie-themed art activities, and enjoy free lunch and snacks.
