Citizen Science: Monarch Larva Monitoring Project

Be a citizen scientist and study monarch butterflies in LICM’s Milkweed Garden. Your data will help scientists at the University of Minnesota understand butterfly migration and will help conserve this threatened species. Meet at the front desk to collect information and see how these plants are habitat for visiting monarchs.

3rd Annual NYCB Live Youth Baseball Clinic
Saturday, Aug. 10, 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.

NYCB LIVE will host a youth baseball clinic on Saturday, Aug. 10. There will be two sessions, one at 9 a.m. for youth ages 7 to 10 and the second at 10 a.m. for those ages 11 to 14. Admission is $50 per attendee and limited to 200 total participants, 100 per session. The clinics will consist of hitting, fielding and pitching drills, and talks led by New York Mets Legends Tim Teufel and Nelson Figueroa. During the event, youth will have the opportunity to meet, get autographs from, and take photos with the Mets alums.

Water Lantern Festival Long Island

Water Lantern Festival is a floating lantern event that is all about connections. The festival includes food, games, activities, vendors, music and the beauty of thousands of lanterns adorned with letters of love, hope and dreams reflected upon the water. As the sun begins to set on the evening sky, Water Lantern Festival begins to shine with the launch of the lanterns onto the water as we Light The Water together.

Vanderbilt Cup Race & Race Car
Tuesday, Aug. 13, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Children in grades K to 3 will be able to enjoy a number of creative workshops at the Vanderbilt’s Carriage House this August. Workshop begins with an educator-led tip through collections galleries and dioramas relevant to the theme and the accompanying creative project. Students are encouraged to bring lunch.
