Tilles Center announces 2018-19 season with array of acts

The Tilles Center for the Performing Arts at LIU Post put a focus on diversifying the seasonal line-up last year and is continuing to bring a wide array of tastes, styles and speakers to the venue over the next year.

After hosting a sold-out night with former Vice President Joe Biden, another prominent elected official will come to Long Island — former President George W. Bush.

The 43rd President of the United States will speak at 7 p.m. Oct. 25, sandwiched between performances Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo on Oct. 12 and the Mariinsky Orchestra from St. Petersburg, Russia, on Nov. 2.

“Our 2018-19 season features some exciting top performers including even more classic rock and as well as world-class orchestras. Coming off the success of last season, we’re excited to continue to bring a wide range of programming that appeals to a variety of ages and interests,” Tilles Center Executive Director Bill Biddle said. “This year’s lineup includes everything from the comedy of Steve Martin and Martin Short to world-renowned classical performances by the Israel Philharmonic featuring the final tour of Music Director & Conductor, Zubin Mehta.”

The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra will perform at 8 p.m. Feb. 2.

For the center’s annual gala, Diana Ross will perform at 8:30 p.m. Oct. 6 followed by Melissa Etheridge the next night.

“The classic rock and pop shows were so successful last season that we’re continuing to bring iconic performers such as Melissa EtheridgeNeil SedakaPat Benatar and Neil Giraldo and Dennis DeYoung of Styx,” Biddle said. “The speaker series includes President George W. Bush in partnership with the Global Institute at LIU and sports icon Terry Bradshaw.”

Bradshaw will speak at 8 p.m. Sept. 13.

For the Broadway fans, “Spamalot” will hold two performances on the Greenvale campus at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Feb. 17 before “Something Rotten” moves into the space for two performances at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. March 16 and “The Sound of Music” at 6 p.m. April 28.

“Our national Broadway tours will provide a variety for everyone with musical and comedy plus our dance performances are already creating a buzz in the community,” Biddle said.
