The Island Now

On Friday, Sept. 6 from 7 to 9 p.m., the Walt Whitman Birthplace Association will be presenting the ninth season of “Poetry in Performance: Walking with Whitman.” The two hour event will feature Mary Healey reading her poetry and hosting the community open mic.

The signature series was founded by WWBA writer in residence George Wallace and continues to bring the most intriguing figures in poetry to the Walt Whitman Birthplace Stage, located at 246 Old Walt Whitman Road in Huntington Station.

The night will include a musical performance and refreshments will also be provided. Tickets are on sale now and cost $5 for members of the Walt Whitman Birthplace State Historic Site and Interpretive Center and $10 for those who aren’t members. Students are free.
