WORK IT author to visit Dolphin Bookshop

Author Carrie Kerpen

You don’t have to be a #Girlboss or “lean in” to have a dream career and live a life you love.

In a new book, “WORK IT: Secrets for Success from the Boldest Women in Business,” CEO of Likeable Media and podcast host Carrie Kerpen shares lessons from her career and an “advisory board” of powerful women in a wide range of industries to help women everywhere make their aspirations a reality.

Barbara Corcoran, founder of Corcoran Real Estate and one of the “sharks” on ABC-TV’s Emmy Award-winning program “Shark Tank,” has said the following about the book: “WORK IT is an empowering career guide featuring bold advice from 50 high-profile women on how to succeed in work, leadership and life.”

Journalist and talk show host Meredith Vieira said, “We each must navigate our own journey in life, but WORK IT provides us with a reliable compass… the acquired wisdom and inspiration that can only come from women who have led the way.”

And Publishers Weekly adds, “WORK IT will resonate with those currently struggling to achieve their goals in the business world and will encourage them to keep going.”

Filled with actionable tips and stories from the likes of Sheryl Sandberg, Aliza Licht, and Reshma Saujani, the book reveals their counterintuitive secrets for success, including:

  • How and when to say “no” — whether it’s a dream job that just isn’t the right cultural fit or a low salary proposal, as well as when to say “yes.”
  • How to make your career work for you and your family rather than the other way around.
  • How to develop your own FAB PAB (Fabulous Personal Advisory Board) — a support network of women — rather than work with a single mentor.
  • The importance of talking openly about money — from job offer negotiations and cash flow management, to fundraising venture capital dollars.

“I’m what you might call an ‘accidental’ entrepreneur,” Kerpen says on her website. “Despite having a rather loud inner self-critic, I built a multimillion-dollar social media agency at a time when there was no one to teach you about social media marketing.”

Kerpen’s company, Likeable Media, is an award-winning content studio that was named Crain’s sixth Best Place to Work in New York City.  Kerpen has been featured by the New York Times, ABC’s “World News Tonight,” FOX News and CNBC.

With advice on everything from mastering social media to navigating office politics and the seemingly impossible work/life balance, WORK IT arms every woman with the courage and skills to achieve success and happiness on her terms.

Kerpen will discuss her book and share some of her secrets for success at a special event taking place at Dolphin Bookshop on Thursday, Jan. 11 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Dolphin Bookshop is located at 299 Main St. in Port Washington.
