Island Harvest Food Bank has received a $15,000 donation from New York & Atlantic Railway to assist the food bank with its collection and distribution efforts in Nassau and Suffolk counties according to Randi Shubin Dresner, president and CEO, Island Harvest Food Bank.
In addition to the contribution, NYAR’s employees have committed to volunteer their time assisting at Island Harvest Food Bank’s Hauppauge distribution center with such activities as sorting and packing food and personal care products to be distributed among the food bank’s member agencies across Long Island.
Glendale-based NYAR operates freight trains on the lines owned by Long Island Rail Road and transports a range of commodities critical to the region’s economy including lumber, paper, building materials, plastic, aggregates, recyclables, and food and beverage products.
“Island Harvest Food Bank is at the forefront in the fight against hunger and food insecurity on Long Island,” said James Bonner, president, NYAR. “We are constantly impressed by the countless ways in which they help children, seniors, veterans and working families who often don’t have access to regular, nutritious meals, and we’re pleased to partner with them to help our neighbors in need.”
