Assemblyman Anthony D’Urso is collecting school supplies which will be given to children at COPAY (Community Organization for Parents and Youth, Inc.) in Great Neck.
There are about 30 children in COPAY’s afterschool program who need supplies for the new school year. The drive will be until Aug. 31 so the children can get the supplies before the first day of school.
“These children need the extra assistance to help them succeed in school,” D’Urso said. “They are our future.”
COPAY is a non-profit agency dedicated to providing high quality professional medically managed out-patient service to families and individuals. Their many programs and services are a response to the needs of the community and no one is turned away regardless of ability to pay.
Michelle Kirkpatrick and Michelle Ramos run the after school program with limited resources.
School supplies can be dropped off at Assemblyman D’Urso’s office, 45 North Station Plaza Suite 203 in Great Neck, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. -5 p.m.
Needed supplies include:
Scissors, highlighters, ziploc bags (1 gallon/quart size), colored pencils, black sharpie fine marker, tissue boxes, crayons, index cards (3×5), unscented baby wipes, colored construction paper, lined post- it notes (yellow 4×4), earbuds (2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th grade), loose leaf paper, 3-hole one-inch binders, stylus pens (4th & 5th grade), erasers, folders with pockets, glue sticks, pencil boxes/cases/bags, small glue bottles, rulers, coloring markers (thick & fine), lunch boxes, small manual pencil sharpeners and backpacks.
All items must be new.
