Christopher Lynch, a teacher at the E.M. Baker School, has been honored as a 2019 Ride for Life Honoree for his commitment to the fight against ALS. Lynch was recognized at the 22nd annual ALS Ride for Life Honoree Recognition Benefit on March 29.
Each year, the ALS Ride for Life organization recognizes individuals, businesses, students, and schools for their support to find a cure for ALS. Mr. Lynch was selected as an award recipient in the education category for his contributions and for the work of the Baker school community in support of this very important cause.
Lynch initiated Baker School’s support for the Ride for Life seven years ago. Since then, Baker School has been a stop on the annual Ride for Life journey from Montauk to Manhattan. Each spring, ALS Ride for Life founder Christopher Pendergast travels up the school’s driveway in his electric wheelchair, surrounded by his fellow ALS patients and supporters, while fourth and fifth graders stand outside the school to cheer them on. Throughout the school year, students and staff at Baker School promote the Ride for Life through service learning activities and fundraising.
The Ride for Life was founded in 1997 with the purpose of raising awareness about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. The Ride for Life raises funds to support patients and help develop a cure for ALS.
