Earth Day 2019: Clean up of Guggenheim Preserve on May 4

The Island Now

For Earth Day this year, PWGreen, the Port Washington School District and the Town of North Hempstead are sponsoring a clean-up of Guggenheim Preserve, the seventeen-acre parcel of land just east of Guggenheim School.

As many people as possible are welcome to help pick up trash in this wild area of woodlands and meadows. Over the last 14 years, PWGreen has been taking Port elementary and high school students on field trips here to learn about the habitats, flora and fauna of our community.

The date is Saturday, May 4 and the time is 10 a.m. to noon. Garbage bags and a free tee shirt will be provided by the Town of North Hempstead. The proper attire is long-sleeved shirts, long pants, work shoes or sneakers. Work gloves are recommended.

Over the last several years many people of all ages have helped remove hundreds of pounds of trash from this preserve, This is your opportunity to do your part for the Earth, and help Port Washington go green.

PWGreen, is a not-for-profit organization with three missions: protecting natural areas, promoting eco-friendly living and providing environmental education.
