East Hills Mayor Michael Koblenz said last Thursday that one staff member has been added at the village Fitness Center, located at East Hills Park.

The Fitness Center, which holds up to about 20 people at a time, was the last remaining village entity to reopen after COVID shutdowns when it did so on July 7, signaling a return to complete normalcy in village operations. The center now has two staff members.

Hours of operation for the Fitness Center will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day. A proof of vaccination must be shown to use the taxpayer-funded gym.

Koblenz said he has received only one call regarding the policy of all users needing at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.

“So far I have had one person question it,” he said in a phone interview. “We have 7,000 residents.”

The East Hills Park, which incorporates a pool, dog park and playgrounds, among other things, has been open since May 29.
