The East Williston village board approved $175,000 for the installation of new LED streetlights throughout the village at Monday’s meeting.
Mayor David Tanner thanked state Sen. Elaine Phillips, who he said helped secure a grant of $125,000 that will be applied to the expenditure.
Tanner cited the benefits of LED technology, including cost efficiency and improved visibility.
In another matter, the board unanimously approved a request from the Wheatley Hills Golf Club to replace a 60-year-old retaining wall on its property.
Richard Kearns, president of the club, explained in his presentation that safety was the main concern as the wall, which has been in a state of disrepair for many years, will secure a 13-foot drop in the terrain between the clubhouse and the parking lot.
Architect Jared Mandell outlined the details of the project, which is expected to be completed in six to eight weeks.
Construction will start in late October.
Also during the meeting, a resident asked the board about parking problems caused by construction on Roslyn Road.
Deputy Mayor Parente said that the village will grant temporary parking permits to residents who are affected by the roadwork.
