East Williston School District Innovation Lab holds ribbon-cutting

The Island Now

Sate Sen. Elaine Phillips recently attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Willets Road School for the opening of a new Innovation Lab.

Earlier this year, Phillips helped obtain $10,000 in state funding for the East Williston School District, which was used for the development of the new educational facility.
“This lab will create a learning environment that fosters innovation, encourages creative thinking and adds more technological, forward-thinking lessons into students’ daily education,”  Phillips said. “We need to prepare our students for the future and for yet-to-be-created jobs that will inevitably be generated as a result of our ever-changing world. I am thrilled that the Willets Road students will now have access to an environment that allows thinking beyond the traditional curriculum and will challenge them in new educational arenas.”
Over 120 students have already signed up to participate in the optional Innovation Lab, which, will feature Spheros, green screens, snap circuits, 3D printers, video game design platforms, and other products designed to inspire children to learn and create.
