North Side's Centennial Celebration & EWSD's Walk-a-thon

This year the East Williston School District’s Walkathon, in support of local charities, sponsored by the Wheatley Key Club, will be combined with North Side’s 100 year celebration on Saturday, June 9, rain date June 10, at North Side School.

At 1 p.m. the centennial celebration will begin featuring tours of the building for all community members, crafts for the children such as decorating fun hats and making birthday cards to display all throughout North Side. Those participating in the walk-a-thon will be able to hand in donations at that time. All students at all three schools have received their donation envelopes. The charities for this year are 100 Million, Long Island Crisis Center, Ronald McDonald House and North Shore Animal League.

At 1:45 p.m. everyone will gather for a ceremony that will include some highlights of North Side’s history, some local dignitaries, a short performance from North Side’s chorus and an introduction from the Key Club regarding the charities our walkathon will be supporting.

At 2:15 p.m. the walk-a-thon will begin with walkers leaving North Side to take a history stroll through the last 100 years of the Village of East Williston. There will be several points of interest on the walk highlighting East Williston’s history.

Bring phones and headphones – Willets Road students will be creating podcasts revealing the history of each stop, accessed through a QR code at each site.

The walk will then conclude at North Side with a tasty birthday treat and an aerial photo of all the participants in the shape of 100.
