On Dec. 12, East Williston families gathered at the Willets Road Media Center for the third annual Bookies and Cookies celebration hosted by district library media specialists, Jo Beth Roberts, Karen Homer, and Diane Ilkiw.

The media center was filled with students, along with their families, from all three schools, celebrating reading and the holiday season with a book swap and a cookie swap. The families of East Williston also enjoyed coloring, book trivia, creating bookmarks, reading books, playing book bingo, led by Homer and even participating in a game of Mad Libs, hosted by Roberts, all while feasting on delicious cookies.

The students of Wheatley’s Book Club were also in attendance and amazing with the younger children as they played and even performed an original script called “Bad Kitty Goes to Grandma’s.” At the end of the performance, children’s storybook character favorite Bad Kitty made a live appearance to take photos with the students. It was a wonderful and fun family night that highlighted literacy with lots of holiday cheer.
