Ensemble Pi to perform at Hofstra

The Island Now

Ensemble Pi is a socially conscious new music group that has collaborated with numerous artists, writers, actors and journalists over the years to premiere over 50 works by American composers. As part of the New Music concert series, Ensemble Pi will perform on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 8 p.m. on the Westermann Stage, Concert Hall in the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center, 1 South Ave. in Garden City.

Founded in 2002, Ensemble Pi has performed in a variety of collaborations and venues that bring together music and ideas on important contemporary issues of social justice and political activism. They have worked with artists and activists from all over the world, such as South African artist William Kentridge, Iraqi actress Namaa Alward and Israeli philosopher/activist Anat Biletzki.

This special program will include works by all three of Hofstra’s Department of Music faculty composers — Sidney Marquez Boquiren, Christopher Lyndon-Gee and Paul Moravec — as well as composer and human rights activist Laura Kaminsky.
