Event to celebrate adoptions

The Island Now

The Nassau County Department of Social Services and Nassau County Family Court, in partnership with the Long Island Children’s Museum, recently announced their participation in a National Adoption Day Ceremony on Monday, Nov. 21 at the Long Island Children’s Museum in Garden City beginning at 10 a.m.

Adoptions of 16 children in foster care will be finalized, according to a press release from the Nassau County executive office.

“This is a wonderful and inspiring celebration,” Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano said. “Nassau County is dedicated to building and strengthening our families — we are devoted to ensuring every child freed for adoption has a permanent, loving family.”

November is recognized as National Adoption Month, and following the ceremony, a reception will be held for families finalizing adoptions and families who have adopted during the year.

“The Family Court of Nassau County is thrilled to participate in providing safe, loving and forever homes for the children of our County,” Supervising Judge Edmund M. Dane said.

For residents interested in fostering or adopting, call the Department of Social Services Recruitment Unit at (516) 227-7613 for further information.

“The partnership between Long Island Children’s Museum and the Department of Social Services and Family Court illustrates the value of public/private partnerships in enriching the lives of Nassau County’s children and families,” LICM President Suzanne LeBlanc said.  “Hosting Nassau County’s “Adoption Day” and sharing in the excitement as “forever families” are made and celebrated is a natural extension of the museum’s commitment to our community.”
