Two Roslyn Heights residents were killed in a single-vehicle crash on a highway in Virginia on Monday, March 22, the Virginia State Police reports.

Sharon Cisco, 57, and Vetrel “Vicky” Hill, 75, both of Roslyn Heights, were passengers in a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer that was traveling north on Interstate 81 in Augusta County, between the areas of Raphine and Greenville, when the car ran off the left side of the road, over-corrected back into the travel lane, swerved to miss another vehicle, ran off the left side of the road again and overturned before striking a ditch, according to the police, who responded to the scene around 2:56 p.m. that day.

Both Cisco and Hill were ejected from the vehicle, and neither was wearing a seatbelt. Cisco was transported to University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, where she succumbed to her injuries. Hill died at the scene.

In addition to the two Heights women, the two other passengers in the car, 41-year-old Kareem Wallace and an unidentified 17-year-old, were transported to the same hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Police say Wallace was wearing a seatbelt, while the teenager was not and was ejected from the car.

The driver, Nathaniel Gray, 63, of Hempstead, was also transported for treatment of serious injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt. Gray was charged with failure to maintain proper control of the vehicle, and the police said that fatigue was a factor in the crash.

Efforts to reach families of the victims for this story were unavailing. The state police said in a statement to Blank Slate Media that the crash remains under investigation.
