The Town of North Hempstead will temporarily be moving its meetings scheduled between May and August to other locations, due to scheduled elevator repairs in Town Hall.

A spokeswoman for the Town of North Hempstead said this was to ensure the town would be in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, allowing people with a handicap to access their meetings.

The Town Board meetings scheduled for May 8, June 5 and July 17 will take place at the Administration Building Community Room at Clinton G. Martin Park, located at 1601 Marcus Ave. in New Hyde Park. The June 26 meeting has been cancelled.

“That building is ADA compliant,” the town spokeswoman said.

Board of Zoning Appeals meetings will take place at 1801 Evergreen Ave., in Michael J. Tully Park, which is in New Hyde Park.

The spokeswoman said it is similar in scale to the Michael J. Tully Park elevator repairs, which were completed in January after being out of order for nearly a year.

The town had previously approved $406,270 to fix elevators, as well as to issue $150,000 in new bonds, adding onto $100,000 earlier that year.

The targeted elevators included the Town Hall elevator in Manhasset, elevator cabs in Tully Park, and the town’s Public Works Department building in North New Hyde Park.
