One new police officer and three current members of the Village of Floral Park Police Department were sworn in at the village’s Board of Trustees meeting Tuesday night.

The swearing-ins come as the department is facing significant leadership turnover, losing nearly 200 years of experience through six departures over the last month.

Police Officer Anthony Siragusa was sworn in by Mayor Dominick Longobardi, subject to completion of an 18-month probationary period at a contractual rate of $60,474.

Officer Michael Vigorito was promoted to the rank of sergeant, effective immediately, subject to a 60-day probationary period and a contract of $158,146 plus longevity payments.

Sgt. Thomas McCarthy and Sgt. William Doherty were both promoted to the rank of lieutenant at contractual rates of $178,765 plus longevity and each subject to completion of a 60-day probation period.

The village also ratified the approvals of new police hire Kelly Murphy and recently promoted Sgt. John Wilson and Sgt. Dean Mayo.

The village board voted unanimously to reschedule two meetings to Jan. 2 and Jan. 15 to allow concerned village residents to attend the public hearings held by Empire State Development on the Belmont Park Redevelopment Project. The hearings are scheduled for Jan. 8, 9 and 10 at Elmont Memorial Library.
