Floral Park Memorial High School hosted the 25th annual Sewanhaka Intra-District Model United Nations Conference on April 14. Approximately 300 students from the district attended the conference, debating issues such as loss of biodiversity, censorship, Boko Haram, the breakup of the Soviet Union and the creation of a Kurdish state.

A special award was given to Floral Park Memorial sophomores Kyle Enriquez and Nicholas Victoria for the paper they submitted on loss of biodiversity. They wrote their paper from the standpoint of representatives of Egypt’s policy on environmental issues and the loss of biodiversity. This scholarship award is given in Marion Brzozowskis’ name to recognize the outstanding, meticulous academic efforts and achievements of exemplary Model U.N. students. It recognizes the student authors with the best position paper from the conference.
