Floral Park police commissioner under investigation

The village is conducting an internal investigation of Stephen McAllister, the current Floral Park police commissioner, after testimony last month during a federal corruption case that  the former NYPD officer was on a private plane in the company of prostitutes.

The Floral Park Police Department directed all comments on the investigation to Village Attorney John Ryan, who said he personally believes the allegations are “absolutely false,” but is continuing to conduct the investigation.

Floral Park Mayor Dominick Longobardi said the village is currently reviewing all the facts and details and will proceed based on what they find.

“Very simply, it’s a process the village goes through,” Longobardi said.

McAllister denies being on the flight, Floral Park village attorney John Ryan said during a village board meeting, according to a report in Newsday. McAllister has told the village that he paid for his own plane ticket and rental car for the trip, Ryan said.

Newsday reported that Jona Rechnitz, a former donor of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, testified during the trial of Norman Seabrook, a former New York City correction’s office, that in 2013 McAllister was on a private airplane with prostitutes and other NYPD officials which was bound for a college football game in Miami.

McAllister, who became police commissioner in 2010 after retiring from 27 years in the NYPD, received a $55,000 raise this year after a Board of Trustees vote in February. His current salary is $245,000, based on the 2017-2018 Floral Park budget, less than the NYPD commissioner’s salary.

McAllister’s contract doesn’t include annual pay increases but does allow the Board of Trustees to increase it.

Longobardi said he can’t disclose details of the trial “out of fairness,” as he would for anyone else.

McAllister continues to serve as police commissioner during the investigation.
