Commencement ceremonies at area high schools were anything but normal this year although the administrators and faculty at Floral Park Memorial High School endeavored to make June 17 a special day for graduating seniors.
The Class of 2020 was invited to return to the school for their last walk through the building during a special senior send-off event. The graduates enthusiastically signed a canvas created and painted by art teacher Sydell Glasser. The painting featured the school mascot, a knight, wearing a protective mask and displaying a heart with its hands. The picture represents the unity of the Class of 2020 as it dealt with the global pandemic that profoundly affected their final year in high school. The 4 x 6 painting will be permanently displayed in the school.
