The Nassau County Police Department has accused a former employee of a popular Roslyn steakhouse with stealing from his employer for four years.

Detectives said Anthony Callari, 61, of Deer Park was working as a butcher manager at Bryant and Cooper Steakhouse at 2 Middle Neck Road when he “remove[d] U.S. currency from [the restaurant’s] cash register without permission to do so,” according to a release from the police.

“The defendant systematically voided fraudulent sales slips and removed the said amount from the register in the form of cash,” police said. “When the victim compiled their findings, it was reported to police on Thursday, April 2, 2020.”

Subsequent to the investigation, the loss between January 2016 to April 2020 was determined to be between $200,000 and $250,000 in U.S. currency, police said.

Bryant and Cooper is one of a series of restaurants on the North Shore owned by the company Poll Restaurants, which also owns Hendrick’s Tavern, also located in Roslyn ;Bar Frites in Greenvale; and Toku Modern Asian and Cipollini Trattoria and Bar, both located at the Americana Manhasset.

Callari was arrested “without incident” and is charged with one count of grand larceny in the second degree and one count of falsifying business records in the first degree, according to police.

The defendant was arraigned April 8 at Nassau County Court and was released on an appearance ticket returnable to Nassau County Court on May 27.
