A Garden City man struck and killed a pedestrian in New Hyde Park over the weekend, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

Officials said 20-year-old Steven Moscatiello was driving a gray 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee  eastbound on Jericho Turnpike around 11:45 p.m. on Friday. According to a news release from the police, he struck a pedestrian, later identified as 50-year-old Daniel Sandstrom of Huntington Station, at the intersection of Jericho Turnpike and Cherry Lane.

Officials said Sandstrom was pronounced dead just before 1 a.m. on Saturday. Moscatiello, who was scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Saturday, was charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.

Efforts to reach  law enforcement officials and legal representatives for information  on Moscatiello’s arraignment were unavailing.
