More than 200 golfers and guests raised $400K at the 41st North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) Auxiliary Golf Classic – nearly double the previous year’s total – with proceeds going to support renovation of the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

The charity golf event and dinner at Glen Oaks Club in Old Westbury on July 15 was organized by the Auxiliary at North Shore University Hospital, the volunteer group that supports North Shore University Hospital. The event’s five honorees helped drive this year’s record-breaking donations: Dr. Evelina Grayver, director of North Shore University Hospital’s Coronary Care Unit; Ellen and Marc Blumencranz, managing director of BWD Sports and Entertainment (an NFP Corporation); and Jessica Berner and Eric Blumencranz, managing director, NFP Corporation.

“We are beyond grateful to the numerous supporters who participated in this amazing event and extend our congratulations to the honorees,” said Jon Sendach, deputy executive director at North Shore University Hospital. “These funds will go to where it’s needed most: The critical care of our youngest patients.”

The Auxiliary at North Shore University Hospital pledged to raise $2 million toward the NICU at the end of 2016 with hopes of achieving the multimillion-dollar goal over the next 10 years. The volunteer organization presented the hospital with a check for $250,000 at the dinner – a sum that translates into more than $1 million collected in less than three years.

“I would like to extend our most sincere appreciation to all of the supporters who made this golf outing an unequivocal success and the best event we have ever had,” said Lori Ballen, golf chair and president of the Auxiliary.

The Auxiliary at North Shore University Hospital has supported the hospital for more than 66 years. It also raises money for and donates to other hospital programs, including nursing scholarships and awards, the chaplain residency program, memorial services, Child Life, Team Lavender, Stroke Support Club as well as gifts to patients on Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and on Christmas Day.
